Park Street, officially Mother Teresa Sarani, is Kolkata's most reliable evening out: old tearooms, long dinners and live music packed within a few hundred metres. The street runs east from the edge of the Maidan into the central business district, keeping its colonial-era shopfronts and office buildings; the offices empty at night and the road changes character. A tearoom, several old restaurants and a live music room stand close together, so an evening needs no transport between courses. Flurys has stood here since 1927 and works as the opening stop, with tea, coffee and pastries. Weekday nights are calmer and weekends noisier, with queues at the well-known rooms. Dress is casual, though the older restaurants keep a formal feel. The pavements stay busy after dark, and the street is short and mostly straight.
