About The Village Resort

The Village Resort is a three-star resort on Patharghata Kalikapur Road in Teghoria, on the New Town side of Kolkata. It suits travellers whose plans centre on Rajarhat: an early departure from Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport, a conference at Biswa Bangla Convention Centre, or a few hours in Eco Park. The old city around Park Street, Esplanade and the Victoria Memorial is a long ride away, so the property works best for stays built around the airport corridor rather than for sightseeing in central Kolkata.

This is a resort rather than a city hotel, with a swimming pool, a garden area, a restaurant, room service and parking on site. Family rooms are available, and the grounds include a playground, a picnic area and a games room with chess, board games and darts. Air conditioning runs throughout. At three stars it is a straightforward, comfortable base: the essentials are covered, and a late arrival can eat and settle without going out again.

Location and neighbourhood

New Town, also called Rajarhat, is Kolkata's newest planned district. It was laid out east of the older city and now holds Eco Park, Mother's Wax Museum, Rabindra Tirtha, Biswa Bangla Gate and the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre, along with offices, apartment blocks and serviced housing. Roads are wide and the layout is orderly, with a different feel from the crowded lanes of North Kolkata or the colonial streets around BBD Bagh. Teghoria sits on the northern edge of the district, between the planned sectors and the airport approach.

Little of interest is within walking distance. This is a district built for cars, and the stretch of Kalikapur Road around the property is residential and quiet. Eco Park is 4.1 km away, so a short cab ride rather than a walk. Park Street is 15.9 km in a straight line and 50 to 80 minutes by road, and the Victoria Memorial is 17.1 km, 50 to 85 minutes. Treat the old city as a day out with a fixed departure time.

Mornings are the best part of the day here: cooler air, lighter traffic on the wide New Town roads, and a good window for an early run to the airport. Evenings are quiet, with the convention centre and the Eco Park gates drawing crowds on event nights. During Durga Puja, usually late September or October, traffic across the city grows much heavier; check the current year's dates with West Bengal Tourism before fixing plans.

Rooms and facilities

The facilities read well for work trips. Air conditioning throughout is a practical necessity in a city where April and May often pass 35 °C, and room service plus an on-site restaurant mean a late return from a conference does not depend on finding a table outside. Parking is on site, which helps if you are travelling by car. Breakfast in room is listed. For a three-star resort the appeal is a calm base with the working essentials handled: ask about desk space, power points and internet strength before booking.

Families have the strongest case for staying here. Family rooms, a playground, a picnic area and a garden give children somewhere to run, and the games room with chess, darts and board games covers a wet afternoon. The swimming pool and pool bar are the centrepiece of a lazy day. Non-smoking rooms are listed. In the monsoon, roughly June to September, outdoor plans need a fallback, and the indoor games room and restaurant become more useful than the pool.

Kolkata's heat and humidity shape how a room is used: keep the air conditioning running, drink bottled or filtered water, and expect damp air and mosquitoes after rain. Ask for a room away from service areas if you are a light sleeper. Check-in and check-out times, pool hours, whether the pool bar opens in the low season and how room service runs late at night are worth confirming with the property directly before arrival, along with airport transfer arrangements.

Getting there

The airport, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International (CCU), is the main reason to choose this address. It lies about 9.7 km away in a straight line, 30 to 55 minutes by road depending on traffic on the approach roads into New Town. Pre-booked app cabs and metered yellow taxis both work; agree the route before setting off and insist on the meter in a yellow cab. Allow extra time in the morning peak and during the monsoon, when waterlogging can slow the last stretch.

Howrah station, on the west bank of the Hooghly, is 16.5 km away in a straight line, 50 to 80 minutes by road. Sealdah, on the east side of the centre, is closer at 13.9 km, 45 to 70 minutes. Both journeys cross the congested middle of the city, so build in a buffer before a train. Kolkata station at Chitpur handles some long-distance and Bangladesh services. With luggage, a taxi or app cab is the practical choice for either run.

The metro is a useful fallback when the roads seize up. Karunamoyee station is 8.4 km from the property and Salt Lake Sector V is 7.6 km; Sector V is the eastern end of the Green Line, which runs under the Hooghly to Howrah Maidan via Esplanade and Sealdah. Both stations need a short cab ride first. The Orange Line is partly open and expanding, so check Metro Railway Kolkata for current stations, hours and interchanges before relying on a route.

Food and sights near The Village Resort

Eco Park, or Prakriti Tirtha, is the nearest big attraction at 4.1 km. It opened in 2012 as a large urban park in New Town and makes an easy half day of open space away from traffic. Rabindra Tirtha, Mother's Wax Museum and Biswa Bangla Gate stand in the same district, so one outing can cover several stops. Weekdays are calmer than weekends, and the cooler months from November to February are the comfortable window for walking the grounds.

Farther out, Tangra and Tiretta Bazaar are 11.8 km away. Tangra is the heart of the city's Chinese community and its Indian-Chinese cooking, and Tiretta Bazaar holds a Chinese breakfast market early in the morning. The Mother House on AJC Bose Road, Mother Teresa's tomb, is 14.3 km. College Street and the Indian Coffee House at Albert Hall are 14.5 km, and the Marble Palace, a private residence from 1835 needing a free permit, is 14.6 km.

Eating close to the property means the in-house restaurant and the New Town mall and hotel district around Rajarhat. For the classic dishes the old city is the destination: kathi rolls, credited to Nizam's near New Market, phuchka, jhalmuri and Kolkata biryani with potato and egg, finished with mishti doi or sandesh. In winter, look for nolen gur sweets. Shopping is mostly malls and retail blocks; for evening air, the Eco Park approach roads serve as the local stand-in for a promenade.

A day from The Village Resort

Start early. The airport is 9.7 km away and 30 to 55 minutes by road, so a morning flight means leaving soon after first light and beating the office rush. With a free morning, take a cab 4.1 km to Eco Park and walk before the sun climbs. November to February makes this genuinely pleasant; April and May call for an early start and a quick retreat indoors once the heat builds.

After lunch, indoor options make sense. New Town's Mother's Wax Museum and Rabindra Tirtha are close by, and the property's games room, pool and garden cover the hottest hours. For a longer afternoon, commit to the old city: Park Street is 15.9 km and 50 to 80 minutes by road, the Victoria Memorial 17.1 km and 50 to 85 minutes. Leave by early afternoon, fix a return time with the driver, and note that the memorial museum is closed on Mondays and some national holidays.

Evenings are best kept local. A swim, a meal at the in-house restaurant and an early night suit the airport run. If there is energy left, a short ride towards the Eco Park area or a look at Biswa Bangla Gate fills an hour. For a proper night out, Park Street and its restaurants, Trincas or Mocambo among them, are a long ride each way; go only if the next morning is free. Traffic back to New Town thins after the office peak.

Booking tips and when to go

Book early for Durga Puja, usually late September or October, when Kolkata fills and rooms tighten; the same applies to Christmas and New Year, when Park Street is lit from mid-December. Conference weeks at Biswa Bangla Convention Centre also push demand in New Town. Ask the property for check-in and check-out times when booking, along with pool hours and breakfast arrangements, since these are set by the resort rather than by any city-wide rule.

For this area, November to February is the best window: dry, comfortable days and cool mornings, with hazy air the main drawback in December and January. March heats up, April and May are hot and humid with evening storms, and the monsoon from June to September brings heavy rain and waterlogging. October rain tails off. Time an Eco Park visit or an airport transfer with the season in mind.

Carry cash for taxis, markets and street food, though cards and UPI work in malls and restaurants. Insist on the meter in yellow taxis or use an app cab. Drink bottled or filtered water. Dress modestly at temples and remove shoes where it is customary. Bengali is the local language, Hindi and English are widely understood, and dhonnobad means thank you. Check the official Indian Visa Online portal for e-Visa rules and Metro Railway Kolkata for current services.
